Right Now is the Perfect Time to Have Your Very Own Custom Designed Columbia, SC Outdoor Lighting System Installed!

March 2, 2016 By Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Columbia SC

It’s beginning to feel more and more like spring. After all, there are only 17 days until the beginning of spring! Are you already Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Columbiaenvisioning springtime projects to increase your home’s beauty? As springtime approaches, many homeowners are beginning to plan for upcoming landscaping projects and additions. Landscape lighting, accent lighting and garden lighting are all excellent methods of enhancing your outdoor spaces and adding beauty to the landscape — and the best part is, outdoor lighting can be added anytime — winter, spring, summer, or fall.

Columbia SC Garden LightingSavvy gardeners here in Columbia know now is the best time to plant your flowering plants and shrubs. While it’s not extremely humid and hot at the moment, late winter in Columbia, SC is one of the best times to move ahead with many landscaping projects. The same thing could be said for the addition of outdoor lighting to your landscape! Trees, shrubs and flowers will come to life during the evenings. Your lawn will appear more lush, your blooms will appear more colorful and vivid, and your landscape will have depth and dimension; your yard will truly be the envy of the neighborhood.

outdoor accent lighting columbia scAside from just enhancing beauty, Columbia, SC landscape lighting also aids in giving you a more secure home. By lifting the veil of darkness that would normally overtake your landscape, your home will be a much less appealing target to would-be criminals. Statistically speaking, a well-lit home is much less likely to be targeted by would-be criminals or intruders than a non-well-lit home on the very same street. Criminals are more likely to target a home that cannot be observed by neighbors or a passersby. If your home and landscape is well-lit, criminals are more likely to pass it by, since an attempted break-in on your property would require them to step into the light, leaving them vulnerable and exposed.

Did You Know You Have So Many Options When it Comes to Outdoor Lighting Timers?

February 24, 2016 By Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Columbia SC

Charletson outdoor lighting timerOutdoor lighting timers are truly an essential item to utilize. When it comes to timers, Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Columbia have a vast array of different timers to suit your every need. Do you need a timer to control when the lights come on, but don’t want to go big? We have that option. Do you want the absolute top-of-the-line timer equipped with WiFi, allowing you control from anywhere in the continental US?– We have that as well. When it comes to ensuring your home’s outdoor lighting is as customized as possible, Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Columbia is the company to turn to.

Lighting Control Automation from Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Charleston can be programmed away from homeWhen it comes to outdoor lighting timers, there are four that we utilize the most often. They include: the standard photocell timer, the digital timer, the bluetooth timer, and the ultimate in outdoor lighting timers, LCA (Lighting Control Automation). The standard photocell timer is great if you’re the type that never wants to have to program anything. However, due to it activating your outdoor lighting system based on the amount of sunlight hitting the photocell, a strong storm or darker than usual day could cause your outdoor lighting system to power on prematurely.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Columbus astronomical timerAs for the digital timer, this timer is simple to configure. It can be placed within your home and you will be able to set the on and off times very easily. It is backed up with a battery system to ensure that during a power outage your settings don’t get wiped out. However, if you are without power for several days, that battery backup system will more than likely run out of juice and your settings will need to be put back in once you have power again. Also, if you have multiple transformers, you’ll need multiple digital timers for each transformer. It is in this case where having a seamless, consistent “on time” for all your outdoor lights becomes more difficult as you have to set each timer separately and they run independent of one another.

outdoor-lighting-remote-controller-Memphis-TNNow, for the more technologically advanced, we offer the bluetooth timer. This particular timer can be mounted outdoors or indoors and allows for you to control your outdoor lighting system from your smartphone or tablet’s bluetooth (via an app). You can turn the lights on and off manually, or you can set schedules. The only drawback is that you have to be within bluetooth range for it to work. If you’re looking for the “creme-de-la-creme” of outdoor lighting timers, lighting control automation (LCA) will undoubtedly be your choice.

Charleston_Lighting_AutomationLighting control automation (LCA) is where we start to enter “smarthome technology”. You can literally control any switch within your entire home. From your landscape lighting to the lamps within your home, you have total control over all your home’s lighting. You can control your home’s lighting from anywhere in the country so long as you have internet. Equipped with dimming capabilities and vacation mode (where you are able to have the outdoor lighting system running from dusk until dawn and have internal lights randomly power on and off to give the appearance someone’s home), this timer is absolutely top-notch. Through the utilization of your home’s axial grid coordinates, the LCA system knows precisely which time to power on. So as days get longer or shorter, the system automatically knows when sunset occurs by mapping your home’s location using longitude and latitude.

Kick Off a Brighter 2016 by Upgrading Your Columbia, SC Outdoor Lighting System

January 6, 2016 By Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Columbia SC

backyard landscape lighting Columbia SCOne of our favorite parts of the job is watching our clients’ faces light up once they see the dramatic transformation and enhancements an outdoor lighting system creates for their home immediately after installation. In fact, many homeowners are so pleased with their initial designs that they continue to add on additional areas or upgrade their current designs for years. Of course, at Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Columbia, we’re always happy to help you keep improving the look of your home. Here are just a few common upgrades you could make to your outdoor lighting system:

Columbia SC dock lightingAdditional lights are frequently added to areas around the home once a client sees the difference it can make. If only the front of your home has been treated with a beautiful, one-of-a-kind lighting design, you might start to feel like the backyard, garage, pool area and other areas within the landscape and around the home are left in the shadows. Share the light and get a more balanced, polished look for the entire house by expanding your design and upgrading your outdoor lighting system in additional spaces.

There’s one way to upgrade your outdoor lighting and get an incredibly noticeable difference without digging into the actual wiring and getting too technical: make the switch from old-fashioned halogen bulbs to newer, more energy-efficient LED outdoor lighting.

outdoor accent lighting columbia scThese upgraded bulbs offer a brighter, more balanced look without cranking up the electricity. In fact, you may even save on your monthly bills since LED bulbs are significantly more energy-efficient and have an expected lifespan of up to 25 years! And the best part? Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Columbia can add on a good number of LED fixtures and even utilize your existing transformer because of the lower wattage in most cases. This smart upgrade only takes one phone call to get started and leaves you with energy savings, longer-lasting bulbs and significantly lower maintenance costs than with a halogen bulb system.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Columbia Makes Your Fall Outdoor Improvements Shine

October 28, 2015 By Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Columbia SC

When making outdoor improvements for your last outdoor gatherings of the season, don't forget the outdoor lighting!
When making outdoor improvements for your last outdoor gatherings of the season, don’t forget the outdoor lighting!

Temperatures are finally cooling down, and it’s beginning to feel a lot like fall. Though rain may drive us inside occasionally, it’s a really great time to get outdoors and enjoy being together. As you gear up for the last outdoor activities and gatherings before winter sets in, you may be sprucing up your outdoor areas or even adding new ones. Now is a great time to refinish the deck, expand your small patio, revitalize your landscape, or add that fire pit area everyone’s been suggesting. As you plan, gather materials, and get to work, don’t forget outdoor lighting. Though it may not be the featured improvement, remember that these outdoor living spaces, like the front of your home, will need lighting in order to be functional. A little thinking and planning now can save you a lot of work in this area later.

New outdoor lighting components are often easier to install while you are making an addition, and occasionally, if the work is not completed during construction, your new additions must be partially disassembled to allow component installation. Furthermore, installing new lighting when you make an addition decreases the time your property will be in disarray. Construction and installation of any home improvement is a bit messy. If tasks are completed simultaneously, you will only need to contend with the construction chaos once.

By adding outdoor lighting during your improvement, you will minimize the time your property is in construction chaos.
By adding outdoor lighting during your improvement, you will minimize the time your property is in construction chaos.

There is nothing wrong with adding outdoor lighting one area at a time. Many of our clients choose this option because they make improvements over time. It affords them the opportunity to discover what outdoor amenities they truly want on their property. Just remember that balance is key. When you add the area, go ahead and add the lighting. Your property will look better, and you will be able to better utilize the space. Also remember that our LED outdoor lighting fixtures are much less demanding on transformers. Given your current transformer, you will be able to add many more lights if you choose LEDs. Don’t be afraid of them. While there are many low quality LEDs on the market that have a bluish tint or appear “colder” than halogen lights, the LEDs utilized by Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Columbia can be mixed into a halogen system without anyone ever knowing the difference.

No matter what outdoor improvements you have in mind this fall, Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Columbia can help. From romantic café lights strung around a fire pit area to deck lighting to landscape lighting for those new trees and shrubs you just planted, we will make your outdoor living spaces beautiful, functional, and the place your friends and family want to be this fall. Call us today!
