The Fourth of July, the day we celebrate living in a country that gives us opportunity and freedom, is just a week and a half away. It’s the time we all remember what we have been given and what it has cost. There will be fireworks, food, and lots of red, white, and blue in our clothing and the décor. And flags will be flying – lots of them. Really, what better way is there to show your gratitude and pride in our country than by flying our flag proudly? If you are displaying the American Flag this July 4th, remember that Flag Code requires that the flag only be flown from sunrise to sunset, unless it is “properly illuminated during the hours of darkness” (U.S. Flag Code). You can, of course, take down your flag at sunset, but if you want to show your patriotism all night, let Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Columbia help by providing beautiful lighting for your flag.

If you already own an outdoor lighting system, adding a few lights for your flag is easy and probably cost less than you might think. By adding LED fixtures, you can have dramatic illumination that mixes seamlessly into a halogen system and doesn’t pull much voltage from your transformer. The LED fixtures will consume less energy over time, so your energy costs less month to month then if you install halogen.

Chances are we will probably choose one or more spotlights or well lights to illuminate your flag and we will probably use the uplighting technique commonly used to light trees. If however, your flag is suspended on your porch, we have the option of exploring other techniques and fixtures. No matter how we illuminate your flag, we will ensure that it is visible, beautiful, and noticeable. If your flag is located near a wall, we will also be conscious of the shadows it can create. If appropriate to the wall and surroundings, we may even highlight the shadow using a technique known as shadowing. Of course, we will still be certain to illuminate your flag itself so your patriotism and respect for our flag clearly shows.
So as you get ready for the 4th of July, don’t forget the most iconic symbol of the holiday – the American flag. Be sure it waves proudly and majestically all day and all night. Contact Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Columbia. We will ensure this treasured symbol stands out to remind your family and neighbors what the celebration is all about.
